Hi! I’m Rob Sheffer. I’ve been playing and teaching guitar for over 20 years. I grew up playing hard rock, shred metal, and jazz, but then I fell in love with classical guitar while studying it in music school.

I think the biggest thing I’ve learned from playing all these genres is that they don’t fight each other. Good musicianship, good technique, good practice habits, and passion don’t care about genre or style. My teaching and my playing are both influenced by things I’ve learned from all of these styles and a variety of teachers and colleagues. Musical freedom on the guitar comes from a deep understanding of the instrument and of music itself. That’s what I teach in my college classes, and that’s what I teach in my online lessons.

I studied guitar and voice performance at Grove City College (’13) for my undergraduate degree and then guitar performance and classical composition at Houghton College (’15) for my Master’s. I’ve had the pleasure of learning from world class musicians like David Russell, Jason Vieaux, and Manuel Barrueco.

I currently teach at Grove City College (Private Guitar Lessons, Guitar Class I & II, Aural Skills III & IV) and Washington & Jefferson College (Private Guitar Lessons, previously Guitar Class and Songwriting). I also perform regularly both as a soloist and in groups in Pittsburgh. And I serve as a worship leader at Peters Creek Baptist Church in South Park, PA.

I live in Bethel Park, PA with my wife Maggie and our 3 daughters: Maria, Amelia, and Georgia. If I’m not playing games with them, you’ll find me enjoying specialty pourover coffee, cooking, or studying theology.
